Open loop
An open loop introduces a question or unresolved situation that a later part of the content answers.

Definition
An open loop introduces a question or unresolved situation that a later part of the content answers. It gives readers a specific reason to continue because an important piece of the explanation is still missing. Stories, tutorials, and investigations can all use this structure.
The missing information should matter to the topic. Withholding a trivial detail behind several vague promises creates delay without a useful payoff. A strong loop establishes what is unknown and then supplies enough progress that readers trust the explanation is moving toward an answer.
Close the loop clearly before starting an unrelated request or promotion. If the opener asks why a project failed, name the cause and show the supporting evidence. Do not imply certainty that the evidence cannot support. During editing, list the questions introduced in the opening and check that the later posts answer each one or explicitly acknowledge what remains unresolved.
Example
A thread opens with a failed delivery and promises to explain the small labeling error discovered during the investigation.
How to apply it
Name the missing fact in post 1 in one sentence, such as "the 12-minute delay came from one mislabeled box." Then give progress in posts 2 and 3 so readers are not waiting through empty suspense. Close the loop by post 4 with the cause and the evidence. If you cannot close it, say what is still unknown instead of starting a pitch.
Schedule the thread only after you have written the closing reply. An open loop with no drafted answer is a delay, not a structure. On Threads, keep the unresolved sentence inside the 500-character opener. On a Facebook Page, put the unresolved question in the parent post and the answer in comment 4, labeled as the answer. Do not open a second loop in post 5.
Common mistakes
- Withholding a trivial detail for six posts that never changes what the reader can do.
- Starting a promotion before the promised cause or result has been stated.
- Opening a second mystery in the closing post instead of answering the first one.
